Suga, You Ain’t Everybody’s Cup of Tea.

I am not everybody’s cup of tea.

Some people like a hot lemon ginger tea with just a dab of honey.

Some folks like a southern sweet iced tea made from some strong Lipton’s and a gang of sugar.

Then there those who like a chai latte with lots of robust spices and steamed milk.

And some people don’t even like tea at all.

Personally, I love all kinds of teas - just depends what resonates with my vibe.

I have learned and accepted that the greatest gift anyone can give humanity is to be our healed, authentic selves. But some folks will not resonate with how you show up. And that’s ok!

Some people will want a friend that will co-sign with their bullshit and show support by saying “Yeah dude (or gurl), get you a side piece!”

Be that friend that is like “Bruh/Sis! How bout get into therapy so you can figure out why you chose this one and the last 50-leven women/men just like them!”

Trust me, the ancestors ain’t gonna say what you want to hear but what you need to hear. And they want us to embody that same integrity.

Naa, don’t be a co-signer. Encourage honesty, self-love, and transformation in all things.

Some companies want a Black woman to fill double quotas but remain a silent workhorse without reward, fulfillment, or recognition plus endure their microaggressions, poor leadership, and comparatively smaller checks.

Be that one that will come into any organization and show them all the places their processes, tools, and organizational structures might be inadequate,. Explain to them that their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts are insufficient and damaging. Then teach them how to lead and drive results through compassionate leadership all the while negotiating/demanding just compensation. Show up as yourself with all your lived experiences and they get what they get. Or leave and take your brilliance with you.

Naa, don’t be not that safe negro. Demand accountability, integrity, and transformation in all things.

Some men, no matter their race, seek women who are easily controlled and/or who feed their fragile egos. Many (men and women) define femininity with patriarchal concepts that promulgate toxic masculinity and misogynoir.

Be the woman who leads and manifests in her own life, who nurtures herself (and others) with what is needed - not what the ego desires. Be your thick/thin/voluptuous/plump/athletically-bodied, ebony/cocoa/chocolate/pecan/caramel/latte-skinned, made in the image and likeness of the original woman on this planet that birthed humanity self! Walk with the divinity of your existence because you have been crowned by every Black woman who survived enslavement and oppression to birth new generations of humanity sprung from African ancestry and mixed with people from all other continents on earth. Set your boundaries. Know your worth. Remember who the fuck you are.

Naa, don’t be a derivative to be controlled or manipulated. Be the transformational original.

Part of the journey to know the unique blend of tea that is you, is developing an intimate relationship with your elevated Ancestors.

That journey can be a lot if you ain’t ready…

  • ready to be the best version of you that you were designed to be and stop submitting to the petty in you.

  • ready to hear, speak, and see the necessary truth - even when it’s painful and requires something to die so something can be born (read: death of systemic racism, white privilege, and the illusion of white supremacy for the birth of a world where all people can be truly free).

  • ready to manifest joyful lives, strong families, thriving communities, profitable businesses, and enduring legacies created through partnership between the divine feminine and the sacred masculine balanced with equality, trust, honesty, respect, passion, authenticity, and truth.

Yes, this internal journey can be tumultuous but the only other option is to live a small, unfulfilled life obscured by the projected illusions of the ego. So let’s do The Work to be ready so we ain’t gotta get ready!

Remember - them folks are gonna be who they are, imma be who I am, and you should be who you are - all of which can evolve and shift as we each discover and express our own unique tea blend. If our vibrations resonate - dope! If not, still dope!

In the meantime, whacha’ll sippin’ on?

Take three deep breaths... and embrace who the f*ck you are.
